★. How it all began

The Aldeia da Praia began as the historic Colónia de Férias dos Comboios de Portugal, created in the early 1940s as a summer retreat for the children of Portuguese railway workers. Every summer, children aged 6 to 12 arrived by train from all across Portugal to spend weeks surrounded by the beaches, pine forests and Atlantic air of Praia das Maçãs, with more than 400 children welcomed each week during peak season.

Today, that same spirit of community continues to shape Aldeia da Praia, bringing local and international people together through markets, children’s holiday programs, beach clean-ups, cultural gatherings, wellness activities and shared experiences on the Sintra coast.
